Sophia Cheng, currently serving as the Chief Investment Officer of Cathay Financial Holdings and Chair of the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change (AIGCC), brings nearly three decades of experience in research and investment to her role. In her previous position, she held the esteemed position of Chairman and Head of Research at Merrill Lynch Taiwan.
Widely respected by the government, Sophia has made significant contributions to the financial sector through her research work and active involvement in shaping government policies. Her advocacy extends to areas such as banking reform and tax reform. As a Fellow of the Asia Pacific Industrial Analysis Association and a Board Director of the Taiwan M&A and Private Equity Council, Sophia remains at the forefront of industrial analysis.
Sophia has played a pivotal role in advancing Corporate Sustainability and Responsible Investment in Taiwan, earning her a position as a member of the Taiwan National Sustainable Development Committee. She is currently a member of Future Earth Taipei and serves as a Board Director of the Taiwan Impact Investment Association. Recognized for her outstanding contributions, Sophia has received accolades such as being named 2019 Asia’s Top Sustainability Superwomen, 2021 Global Top 50 Women in Investment Management, and 2022 Taiwan’s Outstanding Corporate Sustainability Professionals.

The Corporate Sustainability Office of Cathay Financial Holding is responsible for the planning and implementation of corporate sustainability (CS) related business of Cathay Financial Holding and its subsidiaries, to promote the company's performance in E (Environmental), S (Social), and G (Corporate Governance). The work is lively, creative, and challenging, requiring cross-domain thinking and cross-departmental cooperation, including research on corporate sustainability-related trends and sustainability-related practices in the financial industry.

Internship Job Description
- Research international sustainability trends and guidelines, and suggest improving Cathay's sustainability strategy/mechanism based on the research results, including energy transition, biodiversity, human rights, impact investing
- Organize external communication materials concerning international sustainability trends, Cathay's sustainability strategies, and other information, and assist in preparing communication materials in the form of speeches and briefings
- Assist in Implementing corporate sustainability-related projects, such as the Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo, the Climate Change Youth Forum, etc., to enhance stakeholders' recognition of Cathay Financial Holdings
Preferred Intern Education Level
