Willie is Co-Founder, President, and Chief Operating Officer of Protuoso Biosciences. Previously, he served as Head of Strategy, Business Development, and R&D Operations at XWPharma, a venture-backed neuroscience biotechnology company focused on novel drug discovery and development. There, he built capital-efficient, cross-border teams and led integrated R&D execution across CMC, nonclinical, clinical, regulatory, and medical functions, shaping program strategy and driving advancement from preclinical development through registrational and Phase II clinical studies. Across emerging biotechs, Willie has been instrumental in raising over US$100 million in financing and securing more than US$1 billion in total deal value through strategic transactions.

He is passionate about advancing biotech entrepreneurship and career development, and has founded and served as an executive of nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting the next generation of industry leaders. Willie holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BSc from Haverford College.

At Protuoso, the Business Development Department plays a vital role in advancing the company’s innovative drug candidates by focusing on outlicensing to strategic partners. The team conducts extensive market research and competitive analysis to identify industry trends, potential opportunities, and the ideal partners to bring Protuoso’s drug candidates to market. By understanding the competitive landscape and staying ahead of industry developments, they ensure Protuoso’s offerings are positioned effectively. Interns in this department gain hands-on experience in analyzing market data, mapping out strategic partnership opportunities, and contributing to the success of collaborations that drive Protuoso’s growth and impact.

The Finance & Administration Department supports Protuoso’s operations by managing budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation. This team ensures that financial resources are optimized to align with strategic objectives, enabling smooth execution of initiatives. They also oversee critical administrative tasks, contributing to the company’s efficient day-to-day operations.

Internship Job Description

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the biotech industry and allows you to contribute to the company’s mission of advancing innovative drug candidates while developing skills in market analysis, business strategy, and operational excellence.

As part of the Business Development department, you will support the partnership efforts by conducting in-depth market research, analyzing competitive dynamics, and identifying potential strategic partners. Responsibilities include preparing reports, presentations, and data analyses to inform strategic decision-making. You will also evaluate competitor strategies, track market developments, and assist in mapping partnership opportunities. This role provides valuable exposure to the intersection of science and business, enabling you to understand market trends and Protuoso’s positioning within the global innovative pharmaceutics landscape.

In the Finance & Administration department, you will gain experience in the operational backbone of the organization. Key tasks include supporting budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation processes. Additionally, you will assist in streamlining administrative operations and creating efficiency in day-to-day workflows. This aspect of the internship provides insight into the critical processes that enable Protuoso to operate effectively and scale its initiatives.
