PERSONAL BIO

Fabien is a main contributor to the Weightless LPWAN technology specification. He currently leads Ubiik’s software development team and technology strategy. Prior to joining Ubiik in 2016, Fabien was with MStar France as System Lead and MStar Semiconductor Inc. (acquired by Mediatek) as Special Assistant to the President from 2006 to 2013.

Fabien's work centers on the development of 2G/3G/4G cellular technologies, including cellular modem algorithm design and implementation for GSM, WCDMA and TD-SCDMA, SoC architecture, MCU, and DSP instruction-set design and optimization, as well as DSP implementation of audio processing like voice codecs and Echo Cancellation. From 2013 to 2016, he was a Member of the Technical Staff at M2COMM, contributing to the technology development and technical support of ESL products, as well as the SoC architecture and commercialization which resulted in a multi-region Sigfox-certified communication chipset.

Brief Introduction of the Department

【 R&D Department】
Ubiilk's R&D Department focuses on the research and engineering of technologies related to IoT communication systems.

The department manages the whole research and engineering processes and provides complete vertical solutions, which include the communication protocols, end devices, base stations, and cloud services needed for complete IoT solutions. We are now on an aggressive global expansion path! Our team’s goal is to build new products and services for the market and add to the company's product line. Within the department, there are also the Hardware team, the Firmware Team, and the Software Team.

Internship Job Description

As an intern in the research center, you will work collaboratively within a team environment to meet ambitious goals and high-quality standards. Your responsibilities will mainly be to:

- Survey and evaluate network simulator suitable for LPWAN applications, specifically for Weightless based AMI deployment.
- Stage 1: network simulation for Weightless network with the single base station and 1000 EUs, evaluate network coverage vs capacity trade-off with different network settings.
- State 2: network simulation for a Weightless network with deployment scenarios similar to AMI field deployment, i.e. multiple base stations and each with 1000 EUs, evaluate network performance with different network settings.

Preferred Intern Education Level

- undergraduate students (third year and above)
- Master students
- Ph.D. students

Preferred Intern Skill Sets or Qualities

- Education background in computer science, communications engineering, or related field.
- Full working proficiency in English
- Experiences in Python, Jupyter, Pandas, Matplotlib, and Numpy.
- Experiences in SQL, Keras, Scipy, PIL, Geopandas, and Web scraping will be a plus.

- Perform automated and manual tests according to test plans and generate test reports.
- Identify, isolate, and document bugs clearly and concisely in the bug-tracking system.
- Support team members to design and develop test methodologies to enhance test coverage.
- Work closely with firmware engineers and cross-functional teams to develop quality products.
