Brief Introduction of the Department

【Government and Public Affairs】

The Government & Public Affairs Department at AmCham Taiwan is the bridge between the Chamber and the Taiwan Government. Our department provides research, recommendations, and liaison coordination to support Chamber-wide and Committee advocacy. We are dedicated to helping our members overcome trade and investment barriers by providing up-to-date information on government policies, legislation, and regulations. Our annual White Paper is an important source of information for both Taiwan and the U.S. government, and offers valuable suggestions on how to navigate the everchanging business environment in Taiwan.

Internship Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our GA team, focusing on legislative, regulatory, and enforcement measures that have a direct impact on domestic commerce and, in particular, international companies operating in Taiwan. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in conducting research, generating actionable alerts, and producing concise reports to keep our organization informed and prepared.

Tasks may include:

1. Legislative and Regulatory Research: Monitor and analyze legislative, regulatory, and enforcement developments in Taiwan that may affect domestic commerce and international businesses. Conduct thorough background research to understand the implications of proposed measures on our stakeholders.

2. Alert Generation and Reporting: Generate actionable alerts on time-sensitive legislative changes, providing key insights and potential impacts on our member companies. Draft concise reports summarizing the implications of these measures, offering strategic recommendations for the organization and its members.

3. Presentation Support: Assist in the creation of presentation slides and remarks for public policy briefings, advocacy initiatives, and stakeholder engagements. Collaborate with the team to ensure accurate and compelling communication of key policy issues.

4. Administrative and Events Support: Provide support in administrative tasks related to public policy initiatives. Assist in the planning and execution of events, including logistics, coordination, and follow-up activities.

Preferred Intern Education Level

Preferred Intern Skill Sets or Qualities

Undergraduate degree in political science, public policy, business, international relations, journalism, public relations, or related fields that emphasize analytical thinking, communication, and persuasion. Preferred Intern Skill Sets may include:

1. Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions to inform policy decisions.
2. Research Skills: Proficiency in conducting thorough and comprehensive research to gather relevant information and support evidence-based policy recommendations.
3. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey policy recommendations, draft reports, and communicate with diverse stakeholders.
4. Policy Analysis: Experience in evaluating existing policies, understanding their implications, and proposing improvements or alternatives.
5. Legal Understanding: Familiarity with legal frameworks and regulations, especially those relevant to the specific policy area.
6. Political Awareness: Understanding of political processes, structures, and the ability to navigate the political landscape to advance policy objectives.
