PERSONAL BIO

With more than a decade of experience in global policy advocacy for climate change and sustainability, Alice Yiu mobilizes an ecosystem of transport stakeholders from 100+ entities worldwide towards the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda through impactful engagement and outreach. She collaborates closely with COP Presidencies, MPGCA and UN entities to host flagship dialogues at UN Climate Change conferences, Regional Climate Weeks and other key regional fora in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, with specialized outreach to the Global South. She has led multiple global coalitions and campaigns and developed a series of robust knowledge and policy frameworks spanning transport, urban mobility, energy, and economics.

SLOCAT thrives to align the community towards driving change with clear and feasible messages and calls to actions. Internship Job Description

The Communications and Outreach Intern will support the SLOCAT Secretariat in advocacy and engagement and other general administrative tasks. The intern will work under the supervision of the Director, Policy Outreach and Strategic Communications. The duties and responsibilities include supporting outreach and communications efforts, which involve maintaining the SLOCAT Knowledge Hub and the Secretariat’s internal knowledge management system. Additionally, tasks include assisting with website maintenance, including updates to text, images, and other content as necessary, as well as managing social media accounts, including the creation and scheduling of posts. Furthermore, responsibilities entail aiding in the creation and editing of various types of content, such as reports, blog posts, web templates, social media posts, videos, and other visual elements and graphics. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the coordination and scheduling of newsletter campaigns, including the update of media and subscribers’ contact lists, and supporting data gathering and analysis of web and social media performance using platforms such as Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and Twitter and LinkedIn Analytics.

Preferred Intern Skill Sets or Qualities

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as communications, public relations, public administration, or event management, is desirable for this role. Fluency in oral and written English is required, with proficiency in additional languages, particularly French, considered advantageous. The ideal candidate should possess excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and G Suite, as well as experience with content management systems such as WordPress and page builders like Elementor and Divi. Additionally, proficiency in graphic design and video editing software such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Canva is preferred. Familiarity with social media management tools like Sendible and email marketing platforms like MailChimp is beneficial. Knowledge of analytics and metrics tools, including Google Analytics, MonsterInsights, Facebook Insights, and LinkedIn and Twitter Analytics, is advantageous. The candidate should demonstrate strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. They should also be capable of working independently and collaboratively across different time zones, with a proven ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams. Knowledge of transport, climate change, or sustainable development is a plus.

We deliver analyses and actions primarily on land transport, with dedicated efforts to Global South realities. Activities include data synthesis, analyses, factsheets, thematic reports, issues briefs, policy assessments, guidelines and toolkits.

Internship Job Description

The data analysis intern will support evidence-based knowledge production and advocacy on transport, climate change and sustainable development. S/he will support data collection, development of methodologies, and the production of knowledge products. The intern will work under the supervision of the Director of Data Analysis and Research.

- Data collection: The role entails supporting the collection of pertinent data sets concerning transport, climate change, and sustainable development. This includes aiding in the collection of both new data and the updating of existing data sets on relevant topics, and compiling them into provided matrices. Additionally, it involves assisting in the maintenance of databases managed by the SLOCAT Secretariat.

- Data analysis: The position involves supporting quantitative and qualitative analysis by exploring new approaches. This encompasses analyzing and summarizing data using indicators, visualizations, and reports to derive meaningful insights.

- Knowledge product development: Another key responsibility is supporting the development of knowledge products. This involves synthesizing data and summarizing key insights and trends to maximize impact within the sustainable, low-carbon transport movement. Additionally, it entails assisting in the translation of data into accessible, high-quality knowledge products.

Preferred Intern Skill Sets or Qualities

The ideal candidate should possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as transport, geography, engineering, or environmental studies; however, relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. A strong knowledge of transport, climate change, and sustainable development is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is required, and familiarity with tools such as Tableau, GIS, and Python is highly valued. Fluency in oral and written English is necessary, with additional languages such as French and Spanish considered advantageous. The candidate should demonstrate strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. They should be capable of working independently and collaboratively across different time zones. Previous experience working in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams is preferred.
