PERSONAL BIO

Dr. Alan Hao Yang is currently Executive Director of the Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation (TAEF), which is the pilot think tank facilitating Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy (NSP) to Asia. TAEF is selected in both 2018 and 2019 versions of Global Go To Think Tank Index Report and listed in one of the 2018 and 2019 Best New Think Tanks. Additionally, Dr. Yang is also leading TAEF in organizing the annual “Yushan Forum: Asian Dialogue for Innovation and Progress.” Dr. Yang has been serving as Policy Advisor to the Executive Yuan of Taiwan since 2018.

In addition, Dr. Yang also serves as Deputy Director of the Institute of International Relations (IIR) and Executive Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) at National Chengchi University, Taiwan. CSEAS serves as the international secretariat of the Consortium for Southeast Asian Studies in Asia (SEASIA), initiated by Kyoto University in partnership with 13 leading Asian studies institutions cross 10 countries.

Dr. Yang was awarded the SUSI Fellowship from the US Department of State, in capacity as visiting professor of U.S. foreign policy at the Department of Political Science, University of Florida in 2011. He was also affiliated with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Kyoto University in Japan as a visiting scholar in 2015. As for academic services, he serves in the international editorial board of the leading international study journal International Studies Review (Oxford University Press), the Journal of Human Values (Sage Publications) and Journal Global dan Strategis (University of Airlangga, Indonesia). Dr. Yang is also serving as the senior editor for Asia Insights, an online meganize published by IIR and CSEAS at National Chengchi University in partnership with the Center for South and Southeast Asia Studies at FLAME University, India. In 2018, he was awarded the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) sponsored by the US State Department on Asian Disaster Resilience Project.
