【Organization】Instill AI democratizes access to AI and unlocks the power of data
Instill AI, founded in 2020, specializes in developing AI models and data processing tools. This year, during its seed funding round, the company secured $3.6 million in investments from institutions including RTP Global, Hive Ventures, and Cornerstone Ventures. Recently, the team earned recognition as one of the top 30 startups in Taiwan's startup ecosystem, an honor granted by the prestigious Neo Star Awards.
Instill AI is committed to addressing challenges in AI model development which no one solved before. The process of developing AI models is not just time-consuming and resource-intensive; it extends beyond the initial training phase. Continuous updates, learning new information, and even periodic retraining are all required to maintain functionality and accuracy.
Another challenge in AI model development is integrating them into commercial applications and enabling them to recognize real-life data. Around 80% of real-life data comprises unstructured information like text, images, and sound. Previously, there were no tools for rapid, automated processing of such data. This led to the recruitment of AI researchers and engineers to establish teams and often necessitated manual annotation, consuming significant time and effort.
To tackle these challenges, co-founders Ping-Lin Chang and Hsiao-Fei Tu, along with the team, spent two years refining their approach through at least five reiterations. Their effort resulted in the creation of two products: VDP (Versatile Data Pipeline) and Instill Model.
VDP operates as an automated production line, converting all types of data into formats recognizable, analyzable, and storable by computers within minutes. Meanwhile, Instill Model ensures consistent model performance by re-collecting data, retraining models, evaluating, and deploying them to mitigate discrepancies between model training and real-world applications.
