14 March 2024

Effective problem-solving requires not only leveraging new technological frameworks and tools but also innovative thinking. Understanding the needs of different groups and finding solutions to interrelated challenges requires individuals with international perspectives. Prof. Wei Shyy, former President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a member of the CAPRI International Advisory Council, will describe the transformative journey that propelled HKUST to become a global leader in academia. Drawing upon his extensive experience in higher education from the United States to the Asia Pacific, as well as his Taiwanese background, Prof. Shyy will reveal the innovative approaches that shaped HKUST’s ascent to prominence. Moreover, he will delve into how universities, enterprises, and Taiwanese society can actively cultivate innovative talent to promote internationalization in education and improve governance in Taiwan, the Asia Pacific, and the world. He will draw from examples from his own career and expertise in aerospace engineering.

After Prof. Shyy’s remarks, Daniel M. Tsai, Chairman of Fubon Group, and Wen-Chang Chen, President of National Taiwan University, will join him on stage in a conversation moderated by Josephine Chao, President of Epoch Foundation.
