Taipei Rises to 14th in QS Best Student Cities 2026

16 July 2025

Taipei has reached a new milestone, climbing to 14th place worldwide in the QS Best Student Cities 2026 ranking — its highest position ever. This achievement highlights Taipei’s unique blend of affordability, quality of life, and growing international appeal.

The QS Best Student Cities ranking evaluates cities across six dimensions: desirability (measured through factors such as safety, healthcare, public transport, climate, and pollution), affordability, student mix, employer activity, academic reputation, and overall standing. Together, these indicators provide a comprehensive picture of what makes a city attractive for students worldwide.

Why Taipei Stands Out

Top in Affordability: Taipei stands out as one of the world’s most affordable student cities, combining low living costs with high-quality education. This advantage reflects a broader regional trend with 27 of the 30 most affordable cities located in Asia.
Growing Desirability: Taipei jumped 20 places this year, now ranked 36th globally for desirability and 7th in Asia. The city scores highly in areas such as safety, healthcare, public transport, and climate, showing its rising appeal for international students.

What This Means for Students

For students considering study abroad, Taipei offers:

A vibrant and welcoming community where international and local students mix freely.
A safe, affordable lifestyle with excellent healthcare and infrastructure.
Global opportunities supported by strong employer activity and international collaborations.
With this year’s ranking, Taipei confirms its position as one of the world’s most attractive destinations for higher education.
