Last week, the NTU International Mentorship Program hosted its second career training workshop, featuring three senior executives from multinational corporations, leading local enterprises, and the public sector. With extensive international experience, the speakers shared their professional journeys—from their academic years to key career turning points—offering diverse career insights through the lenses of global technology trends, corporate recruitment logic, and national talent development strategies.
Through analysis of industry trends and real-world cases, the speakers guided students in identifying essential workplace competencies, including how to establish a clear sense of self and sustain professional passion in the face of challenges. These insights gave participants a clearer sense of direction for their future development and a more concrete understanding of the mature mindset required as they prepare to enter the workplace.

During the panel discussion, Jing Chang, General Manager of Taiwan at Tao Digital, addressed a common misconception among job seekers who strive for “perfect answers.” He emphasised that an interview is not an exam; rather than overly polished responses that lack authenticity, interviewers look for how candidates make judgments and trade-offs under pressure. Ivan Chen, Vice President at WITS, noted that while technical skills are important, interviewers place greater value on transferable competencies developed through past experience and the ability to think from a higher-level perspective. Lastly, Jonathan Liao, Managing Director of Talent Taiwan, advocated for a form of “quiet confidence,” encouraging students to avoid assumed arrogance and instead demonstrate their value through concrete achievements.
Through these insights and guidance, students came to recognise that an interview is not merely a passive screening process, but a professional exchange that enables mutual understanding. We extend our sincere thanks to the speakers for their valuable contributions. We look forward to continuing the IMP workshop series and supporting participants in strengthening their global career readiness.
