Last week, NTU OIA partnered with SwedCham to host a career workshop titled Career Path Event: Breaking into Finance. The session brought together five industry leaders across banking, investment trusts, equity research, and asset management, offering students a grounded perspective on evolving trends and real-world challenges in the financial sector.
The distinguished speakers included:
• Mr Stephen Ho, Former Managing Director, DBS Bank (Taiwan)
• Mr Sean Teng, Head of Institutional and International Business, Cathay SITE
• Ms Jennifer Hsieh, Equity Research Associate (Asia Tech Research), J.P. Morgan
• Ms Jane Hsieh, Senior Asset Management & Fixed Income Expert
• Ms Vera Xu, Senior Relationship Manager, Bloomberg

Through cross-generational and interdisciplinary dialogue, NTU students and members of the Swedish community in Taiwan explored diverse career pathways and reflected on the core competencies needed to succeed in an increasingly volatile market.
Stephen Ho emphasised the importance of integrity:
“In finance, where greed can easily take over, maintaining a strong moral compass is essential. Your integrity will define your long-term success more than short-term gains. Choose ethics over profit, especially when it’s difficult.”
Jane Hsieh highlighted the value of preparation:
“Opportunities often come through unexpected connections, but only those who are prepared can seize them. Continuously build your skills and network, because the learning curve in finance is steep.”
More than a career talk, the session encouraged critical reflection on personal positioning and values. It concluded with lively networking, leaving participants both inspired and better equipped to navigate the finance sector.
At NTU OIA, we remain committed to bridging academia and industry—because meaningful learning happens when the classroom meets the real world.
