German Trade Office Taipei

Patrick Marxer, born with German and Taiwanese heritage and raised in Panama, is a freshman majoring in Civil Engineering. Through the NTU International Mentorship Program 2023, he interned at the German Trade Office Taipei under the guidance of Axel Limberg, the Chief Representative and Executive Director. This internship, immersing Patrick in the realm of bilateral economic and trade relations, sparked self-discovery, dispelled uncertainties, and carved out a career trajectory for him.

Initially apprehensive about starting his first internship, Patrick soon found relief in the unwavering support from his mentor and colleagues. Within a mere three months, he exceeded his own expectations, actively engaging in over twenty projects. His duties encompassed diverse tasks, from market research, to data collection, and to risk assessment. For instance, in one project, he scrutinized the present status, potential, and sustainable development of the shipping industries in Taiwan and Germany. Throughout the internship, Patrick thrived in a collaborative setting. Working closely within a team  comprising interns and colleagues from various backgrounds, he broadened his perspectives and refined his skills of effective communication and teamwork.

Patrick expresses deep gratitude for Axel's mentorship. To him, Axel is a guiding figure akin to a second father, who offered unreserved advice and steered him towards the objectives. Axel also lauded Patrick's proactive and meticulous work ethic. By frequently identifying issues and voicing his observation, Patrick significantly contributed to the Trade Office's decision-making processes. Patrick’s internship at the Trade Office solidified his career aspirations, inspired him to pursue a career at the nexus of engineering and business management, and fuelied his ambition to make a global impact.
