State of New Mexico Taipei Office
Mazwi Mtfombo, a first-year graduate student majoring in Agricultural Economics from Eswatini, aspires to delve into the field of international trade. Mazwi then joined the NTU’s International Mentorship Program 2023 to accumulate practical experience, and target the State of New Mexico Taipei Office as his first choice for an internship. Successfully, during this summer, under the guidance of Director Ethan Chen, Mazwi not only promoted agricultural products from New Mexico at the Food Taipei Mega Shows, but also assisted the office in consolidating and establishing an international trade-related legal database.
New Mexico is situated in the heart of the semiconductor and electric vehicle industry cluster between the United States and Mexico, recently emerging as a focal point actively sought after by various countries for expansion. Ethan discovered that many Taiwanese businesses were hesitant due to their unfamiliarity with local laws and regulations. Consequently, he assigned Mazwi a task to establish a cloud-based database of international trade laws to alleviate investors' concerns. Through extensive reading, absorption, and consolidation of a vast amount of data, Mazwi gained a more comprehensive understanding of international trade regulations. Engaging with various investors, Mazwi learned how to facilitate trade and development between Taiwanese businesses and the state of New Mexico. This invaluable internship experience has solidified Mazwi's determination to pursue a career path in the field of international trade!
