Kelly Gunawan, a second-year Indonesian student, majors in Biochemical Technology. Through the International Mentorship Program (IMP), Kelly interned at Kuehne+Nagel in summer 2023. Before the internship, Kelly had envisioned spending her post-graduation years in a research lab. However, upon entering Kuehne+Nagel, she realized the diversity of her potential future development. Under the guidance of her mentor, Amy Yan, Kelly took on the role of a Sustainability Project Specialist at Kuehne+Nagel, primarily focusing on carbon emissions and biofuels research, alongside managing Kuehne+Nagel's official Line account.
During her internship, Kelly researched and collected data on the carbon emission trading system of the European Union and the International Maritime Organization. Simultaneously, she organized relevant information in alignment with Kuehne+Nagel ‘s green transportation initiatives, enriching the Sustainable Knowledge Base on Kuehne+Nagel’s Line. These efforts aimed to promote broader awareness of sustainability knowledge. These experiences allowed her to delve deeper into the realm of sustainability.
Amy emphasized that intelligent students can be found everywhere, yet interns who proactively familiarize themselves with the organization and mentor's information before the internship are rare. A diligent and meticulous attitude is the personality trait most valued by Kuehne+Nagel, and it was precisely the reason that led Amy to select Kelly. She expressed that her internship at Kuehne+Nagel was full of rewards and inspiration, and came to realize that her studies on carbon emissions, which were not confined to the laboratory, could be applied to various aspects of future corporate strategies. From her dedicated learning attitude to the cultivation of professional skills, these aspects have become indispensable parts of her internship journey, setting her on the path toward a "sustainable" future career.
