IKEA Taiwan

Vibrant yellow and calming blue are not just the colors of some cartoon characters, but of a furniture company everyone is familiar with, IKEA, also famous for their iconic Swedish meatballs! Three NTU International Students interned in summer 2022 at IKEA through the NTU International Mentorship Program, including Akiei Satomi from Japan, Evelyn Peng from Indonesia, and Yung Chi Hung from Hong Kong. Additionally, they were led by their respective mentors, Bruce Lee (Service Fulfillment Operations Manager), Maggie Lin (Sales and Supply Support Manager), and Jasmine Hsu (HR Director), learning about the organizational structure, culture, and business model of this world’s largest furniture retailer.

Yung Chi Hung, under the mentorship of Jasmine, mainly worked on improving IKEA's recruitment programs, and further learned how to design a recruitment program that attracts the best talent to IKEA. Evelyn, under the mentorship of Maggie, learned about IKEA's complex administration, operations, and marketing skills, such as how to display products to most effectively attract customer attention! As for Akiei, mostly helped with logistics management, helping IKEA improve their shopping environment by constantly analyzing customer feedback. All the mentees described how they benefited and learned from their mentors' help in the workplace and career advice. The mentees now feel they are more clear about their professional interests and future careers following their internships.
