EDF Renewables, a French leader in renewable energy, is committed to nurturing international talent by participating in the NTU International Mentorship Program, aiming to provide high-potential individuals with insights into the offshore wind industry. Under the guidance of Head of Engineering Robin Ingram and VP of Business Development Lee Kuan-I, Billy Leong, a PhD student in Climate Change and Sustainable Development from Macau, and Darell Karyadi, an Indonesian undergraduate student from the Department of Engineering Science and Ocean Engineering, embarked on their internship journey.

With several years of rich work experience, Billy initially found returning to an intern role challenging, but it reignited his passion for learning new skills. He analyzed global offshore wind industry policies and leveraged his teaching background to develop educational programs, using interactive methods like games and workshops to help students in Miaoli County understand the industry. Similarly, Darell’s role was broad, ranging from managing EPC contracts to providing GIS data to the Paris headquarters team. Throughout his internship, he seized growth opportunities by participating in the Taiwan Sustainable Retail Forum and the offshore wind seminar organized by the European Chamber of Commerce (ECCT) at NTU, connecting with experts from various fields.

Despite their vastly different backgrounds, both students gained a deeper understanding of the offshore wind industry during their three months at EDF Renewables. They experienced the flexible and friendly workplace culture of a large multinational corporation and accumulated valuable professional knowledge and expertise by continuously overcoming challenges and engaging with their mentors.
