International Ocean Group
This summer 2022, Kathryn Ryan, a third-year finance major from Indonesia, Luis Carias, a third-year mechanical engineering major from Honduras, and Samael Guardado, also from Honduras and a freshman majoring in finance, interned at the International Ocean Group (IOG) this summer, under the guidance of their respective mentors, Andy Hong (Chief Financial Officer), Oliver Chang (Chief Technology Officer), and Ethan Wang (Chief Operating Officer)
Kathryn, who interned in the accounting department, learned from her mentor Andy how to conduct business analysis, reimbursement processing, data entry, budget audits, and accounting. Oliver Chang helped his mentor Luis learn how to design 3D ship models, and also assisted in drawing 3D animations of ships in several exhibitions, as well as developing animations for IOG ships. Finally, Samael, an intern led by Ethan, developed his skills in research and market-data analysis. Samael also gave several oral reports during his internship and improved his public speaking skills tremendously. Samael also designed several IOG souvenirs and products, which were presented to visitors at IOG over the summer.
During their internship at the International Ocean Group, both interns learned that a work environment conducive to learning from one’s mistakes is best for their personal development, as all interns described how patient and instructive their mentors were during their internship.
