Ju-Chi is currently a first-year master’s student in the Department of Civil Engineering. In summer 2025, through the International Mentorship Program, she obtained a two-month internship opportunity at Jan De Nul, under the mentorship of Senior Project Engineer Emiel Vereecke.

Jan De Nul is an engineering and construction company specializing in maritime engineering, dredging, and offshore infrastructure development. The company is headquartered in Belgium and has a branch office in Taiwan. In Taiwan, Jan De Nul Group is actively involved in the offshore wind industry, providing services such as submarine cable installation, subsea foundation construction, and the transportation and installation of high-voltage substations.

During the internship, Chih-Chi worked as a project engineering intern in the Offshore Cables Department. Her responsibilities included assisting in drafting and reviewing technical method statements for cable installation operations, calculating cable friction forces within ducts, and participating in cable installation design. In addition to office tasks, the company also provided her with opportunities to visit the cable-laying vessel and spend one week on-site at the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm in Taichung Port, where she could directly observe the operation of various types of equipment.

Ju-Chi said, “It was a rich and diverse learning experience that balanced both technical office work and hands-on field exposure. It not only deepened my understanding of offshore wind cable installation but also strengthened my appreciation of interdisciplinary teamwork and the complexity of marine engineering projects.”
