On Wednesday, Dec 8, 2021, NTU OIA hosted the first workshop for the NTU International Mentorship Program, where four speakers from different fields shared their career advice to students. With more than 100 students from 26 countries in attendance, it was a success as students showed great enthusiasm to engage with leaders from various organizations.
The theme of the event was “How to Sell Yourself for Different Fields”. In the first half of the workshop, the three speakers not only shared their career exploration journeys, but also overall highlighted the key message that the best way to succeed as a potential candidate is to find your passion and make it known.
Bart Linssen, Managing Director of 台灣艾納康有限公司 ENERCON Taiwan Ltd., stated that from his own personal experience, it is not the achievements or skills written on a resume that are most important. Rather, it is the enthusiasm to learn and grow which makes a candidate outstanding.
Sunny Yang, CEO of 城市浪人City Wanderer, further emphasized the importance of finding one’s passion. She recalled the moment she felt that ‘clicking moment’ where she knew she had to pursue her dream in reforming the education system in Taiwan.
Vera Tsai, Operations Manager at CakeResume 台灣, highlighted that companies spend an average of 6 seconds per resume. She mentioned that most companies use applicant tracking system to review CVs, so it is important to utilize keywords which will make yours stand out.
In the second half, led by Sindy Chen, Lead Marketing Strategist at CakeResume 台灣, students were given a step-by-step guide on how to write an eye-catching CV. Recommendations for a successful CV include a list of accomplishments, and also experiences which are relevant to the employer’s field.
In the following year, NTU OIA will hold the other two workshops for the NTU International Mentorship Program, which feature the themes of interview and communication skills.
